Groundhog Day

Steven caught the baby of our pests! I had gone with the girls to pick up some canning jars for making jam. (I'll tell you about the jam later.) When we got back he met us at the truck exactly as you see in the photo. He was walking it around like a pet on a leash. The critter was acting like a tame pet. When he first caught it he said it was growling and fighting. He caught it with a snare as it poked its head up from the hole it had made in the barn. I cannot believe he caught it! I am just laughing and laughing! Who's the hillbilly now? You can read about the 'hunt' on his journal later. Rural Suburbanite

AAAAH! Make him stop! No tormenting of creatures!! A quick death only if absolutely necessary. Otherwise, live and let live.

you are killing me!
I hadn't said anything until now, but up in Maine that little critter ahs been the bane of our existance. We have a garden, in fact Mom and stepdad paid a small fortune to terrace the front 'lawn' so we could ahve a garden to grow things for the summer dining.
He has eaten EVERYTHING except onion products (scallions, chives, onions) and a few herbs. Everything else must be caged and guarded.
One year we even enacted the woodchuck relocation program. We caught him with a humane trap, baited with French bread (who knew??) and stepdad drove him on the boat over to the island across the lake so he could start a nice life of his own on a beautiful piece of real estate.
This year, we have at least two. The dill, the parsley, the tomatoes (not in teepees) and soon the basil...all gone.
I am jealous. Now what?

The hillbilly will be the one who comes up with a recipe for roasted groundhog with a jam glaze.

You could make him a little house and name him Phil and he'll tell you when winter is over.

DO NOT USE YOUR COOKIING SKILLS TO MARINADE AND BARBECUE PHIL. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
