House Plans
The first of the month means you get to see the lastest photo of the front of my house since I am documenting my house through a year of change. The changes are slight. But still changes none the less.
The hanging baskets are really growing quickly. Little birds have nested in them. One basket has a nest with 4 little eggs. I hope they hatch.
Tomorrow I am going out to a cabinet shop to talk with a builder who has been invovled with several period reproductions on kitchens. I am dragging all of my plans and ideas and hoping he can do as he said and come in under my budget. I won't hold my breath but I won't spend a fortune either. I do know the look I want of 1909 cupboards can be achieved without selling our vital organs.
I have located someone to build the gazebo for my garden. The cost will be way under budget! Yayyyyyyyyy for me!
I am waiting to hear back from a guy who is considering helping us with the clearing of the road front and repairing the fences. I am betting he declines. He really baulked at the amount of work needed. So, I wait. What is it about meanial labor that scares so many people? Geeeshhhhh!
We have a giant groundhog. I called the animal control for our county and they had no advice. NONE! I was refered to the state game and wildlife commission. While I waited for a biologist to call me back I called the county extension office. They had no advice. About 1pm this afternoon the biologist called. I am quoting him.
"Groundhogs are considered a rodent in Virginia. They are a pest. We recommend shooting them and o'possums. If you have raccoons creating problems you need a permit to shoot them."
It looks like Steven will be groundhog hunting for a while. The loss of my garden to a rodent would piss me off beyond all pissing off!
I am sunburned, peeling and miserable. I have fallen down on getting around to all the journals I read. If I haven't read yours yet do not give up on me. I am getting to it! I promise.

Dag! You're busy, as usual. Watch that sun, Miss Angie. We live on a dangerous planet.
You aren't missing my website. I want to know what 1909 cupboards look like....off to do some research!
Just get's more and more beautiful-my sister lives in Maryland right outside the district- they just bought an old home she wants to restore too- the area were you live is so speical-
p.s.Remember your sun screen with board spectra coverage- burns really hurt now that we aren't teenagers anymore
Angie-
They'll tell you to shoot just about anything out here. Once someone killed a deer with their car and it landed on my property about 30 feet from the road. I called VDOT to let them know about it and they told me to pull the dead body to the side of the road so they could see it better. My husband was out of town and there was no way I was going to grab a dead deer by the foot and pull him! I told them no way but I would lay the street sign that was also damaged in the accident on top of the deer as a marker.
So...would you sell NON vital organs for a chance at the perfect kitchen? Hmmmm, I think you'll be reevaluating the need for TWO kidneys.
Don't you love livin' in these here woods? Of course if you didn't call anyone and shot it..you'd here from your neighbors, the police and PETA.
DAMN, I love your house!!!!!!
Drink some ice tea and stay in the shade a few days, Miss Busyboo. Stuff will keep.
(And I just watched Caddy Shack for the first time in about twenty years. There's a good reference tool for pest elimination. :-)
i've been watching the picture of your house for 20 minutes now. God, it's so beautiful. i'm drooling with envy. numb with jealousy.
Your house is gorgeous. My hubby's dream home of sorts (we sold his that was similar era and style - American Gothic and very historic - due to the number of kids in consolidation. The promise is that we will *one day* repurchase and restore another. I am eager to keep reading your stuff so I can take notes for later!) Nice addition the flowers, good luck with the cabinets! Have you tried bombing the groundhog to a lovely neighbor's field?? We did that when living in Belgium. Seemed to work well with minimal fuss.
Simply, stunningly beautiful!
~K!
I say let the hubby burn them all out, jk. You make me want to live in the country, well maybe not live, but I could visit for a long time.
Love your house! And the mantra of the day is: Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen.
They stock it right next to the solarcaine at the CVS ;^D
Looks beautiful, Angie! My greatgrandparents lived in a similar house and I always loved going there.
Thanks for the info on Omar - he's 1' taller than I am - so I guess that's fine. Hehe.
Great update, kid. You as red as Red?
What kind of birds? Will send chicken scratch my email, post haste.
Angie, Jenny said exactly what I was gonna say... That the cabinets would cost at least a kidney. But she said it so much better....
As for the groundhog?

Maybe I could talk to him?
