Put A Bow On It and Call It Wrapped

| | Comments (9)
The invite read 6-9pm. The last guest left at 12:02am. An hour later we went to bed. We put very few left overs in the refrigerator. What surprised me was we had plenty of beer and wine leftover but not one cola left in the cooler. The ornament exchange did not go well. Many people did not bring an ornament. What to do? I quietly asked that people take their ornament back with them. Some did, some didn't. I don't know who left the few ornaments under my tree. I did send everyone home with ornaments I made from Georgia cotton and little stockings filled with candies, children recieved a santa hat. Is it just me or is it terribly wrong to show up at a party empty handed when the invite specifically asked for a small inexpensive christmas tree ornament then proceed to eat and drink your fill and breeze out the door? Does pointing this out here in my journal make a not so gracious hostess? Yesterday we nibbled on a little of this and that. Today we are having the leftover ham in a potato and cheddar cassrole. The few sweets are going to school with Gracie for her party. That's it. All the food is G - O - N - E. This was my last hurrah. I am whooped. Sunday was spent mostly on the couch or napping. We cleaned a little here and there. Put things away as the dishwasher finished each load. Other than that not much happened here. Steven and I both have come down with head colds. He ran a low grade fever yesterday evening. I am trying to struggle through med free in an effort to give the best care to the baby. I have about 6 weeks left to go and I promise you I am done. The house is decorated. The party is over. Gracie's birthday is Saturday. I have plans to do nothing but vegetate and incubate until Christmas Eve at which point we will go out to dinner for the best Peking duck ever. January 2nd all the decorations start to come down. After that I plan to do NOTHING until this baby is born. I am exhausted. I can only hope people enjoyed themselves as much as we did. Of 40 guests who RSVP'd to attend we had 30 guests in our home. The most special guests were this lovely lady, her husband and 1 of her gorgeous daughters. I did not get to spend nearly as much time with her as I wanted to because I had to mix and mingle and be the hostess. If I had my druthers I would have locked her away and we would have talked all evening. Not only is she as sweet and lovely as she appears in her words. OMG people, she is gorgeous! And her hair! She has yummy sex-kitten long curly hair that is gorgeous shades of blonde. She is also generous. She brought us cookies! And baby gifts! And Gracie a birthday gift. My biggest fear - she thinks we are lame and boring.

Don't be silly; NO ONE could thinnk you were boring! Nice to hear that the party went well, and no, you are not at fault for mentioning the lack of ornaments. It was tacky of those who did not bring any! I hope you are really meaning that you are done. You and the baby need to rest up and get strong for the big day.

Angie- you are just the sweetest thing under the sun. Boring? Are you kidding me? I just spent the day at the mall with my mom telling her how much I enjoyed spending time with you, meeting your wonderful family that I've read so much about, seeing your beautiful home and eating way too many goodies. I told her that I just couldn't stop hugging you. I loved every minute of it, Ang. Thank you so much for having us:) xo

I've seen that hair in pictures, and I think "sex-kitten hair" is the perfect description. Your party sounds fabulous - I'm coming next time no matter how far the drive. I'm glad you're making plans to take it easy, my friend. Gestating takes its toll.

Sounds successful! I think our society as a whole is not good at the RSVP thing... and the ornaments? Hello? How rude - yes I do think so, but sounds like MommaK made up for it!

My Bear had her #8 bday party last Sunday and our family party will be on the 17th...I'll be thinking of you and yours!

Wow. THE MommaK! Unbelievable!

We had very similar weekends. It's strange how holiday parties differ from year to year. Last year at our party, lots of people didn't drink alcohol. This year, lots of people drank lots of alcohol. I think it was the abundance of mommies we had there (next door neighbors and play group moms). Funny, but true.

I too spent Sunday lazing around. I don't know how you do it pregnant, though.

It's good to read that you are planning to do some serious resting up. You'll be busy enough after the baby is born. Please, Angie. For the love of God, put your feet up! ;)
