Thirteen Things about Angie
1. I have not seen the movie but I have the soundtrack for Walk The Line. Wow! Joaquin Phoenix! Who knew that boy could sing? 2. I spent yesterday in a pre-diabetes class for gestational diabetes. The doctor recommended stressed ordered that I attend the classes and follow the 'self management' program because I failed the fasting blood glucose test with a 95mg/dL. According to everything I have read and all the research I can find the target for pregnancy is between 60 and 100 mg/dL for fasting. How did I fail? I am seriously going to question him next week about the results and also question who set the target levels and why are they below all others I can find? 3. I am pricking my fingers 4 times a day and using a freestyle monitoring machine. I have to test my glucose every morning before I eat, 1 hour after every meal. It doesn't hurt but after a few days I wonder if my finger tips will be sore. 4. I am told that I have to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks. What I am supposed to be eating in many cases is way more than we are accustomed to eating. I had to force myself to eat a sandwich before bedtime last night. Eating before you go to bed is what makes you pack on the pounds. 5. They better not say 1 word when they see how the pounds will jump onto me FAST. I mean super fast. We do not eat that much food in a day. What are they thinking? I'll have to start eating the time my eyes pop open until bedtime. :-/ 6. Steven went with me to the classes. He has been very diligent and helps me test by getting everything ready and prepping the machine. He is such a good nurse. 7. While we sat in the class yesterday watching a video I took his hand and laid it across my stomach. Bump. Bump. Bump. Bump. In perfectly timed rythm. The baby had hiccups that lasted almost 10 minutes. 8. Sometimes I am easily amused and entertained. 9. It is raining here today. I can but I refuse to walk in the rain. 10. Having needed an antibiotic to get over a very bad head cold/sinus infection, having suddenly developed laryngitis I don't think it is such a good idea to walk around in the cold and rain this morning even though I am supposed to walk daily. 11. I have no idea what to prepare for supper tonight. I am sick of food and it being thrust in my face all day long. 12. I am listening to Johnny Cash. I got several nice cd's and books for Christmas. They make it very easy to do nothing but sit with earphones and read. 13. Johnny is cool as hell but George Strait is the man. Yummy. He has an innocent yet very playful and mischeivious smile -just like my Steven -who is also very yummy. Links to other Thursday Thirteens! MommaK Raehan

Angie, please do what the docs tell you! My daughter got gestational diabetes and had pre-eclampsia. She was put on complete bedrest for the last 2 weeks of the pregnancy. It was pure hell for her.

I love Johnny Cash! Can't wait to see Walk the Line.

And unfortunately, you do need to listen to the doctors, pounds packing on and all. They will come off, since it's clear you didn't gain much in the early pregnncy.

I had gestational diabetes with my first child, but not the second. They also didn't find out about the diabetes until my last 2 months of pregnancy...darn army doctors!! LOL

I hope all goes well for you, and your fingers don't get sore from all the poking. I kept the meals really small and the snacks as well, or like you I was afraid I would gain a ton of weight...and I did, but not as much as I thought I would!

I am really sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations. You sound upbeat, with no good reason for it. Good on you. Not long to go, huh? Pass quickly, days.

be careful dear, and do what the nice doctors say! Ask your questions though, and even re-test if you can bear to... keep an eye on your portion sizes and you can do graze eating instead of 3 solid meals and 2 snacks: plan out what you need to eat and then sort of nibble every couple of hours. Oh, I feel for you. Sending you good thoughts!

I lost my comment, here's my second try... keep your portion sizes small and try nibbling every couple hours instead of eating 3 solids plus 2 snacks. Retest your levels if you want, and ask all questions you need the answers to. It's your body and your baby so get the info that YOU need to be comfortable with. Sending you good thoughts!

Angie, darlin' girl, I'm thinking about you. And echoing everyone else above me: do what the nice doctor says. Steven is a good boy for being such a helpful nurse. Get lots of rest, and just do the minimum around the house, 'kay?

Joaquin Phoenix *swoon*...And I'm on the doctor's orders bandwagon...not sure how you can make it easier on yourself and your little one but I'll be sending you my good, relaxing, may your sixty two meals a day be okay for you, thoughts.

Hey, Angie! Love the New Year's theme- very nice, indeed.
Definitely take care of yourself and get on a good diet program. Lots of small meals are the way to go. Soon, very soon...I'm excited for you! P.S. It's rumored that Hoss has developed booze for diabetics as another scheme to make his pile- sounds as though it would work for pregnant ladies, too. :-)

I echo all the good advise above. Listen to the Dr. and OBEY :P

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I got 'George Strait 50 Number Ones' for Christmas. Love that guy .
