How I Spent New Year's Eve by Angie

"ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ...... "

I think that just about sums it up perfectly.

*******

On other more interesting news -

We are off this morning to go look at a clawfoot tub for my downstairs bathroom. We are biting the bullet. My bathroom is going to be the first real renovation to get our house back to the period in which it was built.

The tub is a roll rim, clawfoot, cast iron tub measuring 5ft long with the original faucets, no chipping to the porcelain. Asking price? $40. Who wouldn't take a drive and pick it up in order to save $1360 -the price difference in one around here and this one I found online?

Wish me luck I really want this to be THE Tub for my bathroom. I want to bring it home and look at it every time I pass it. I want to see Steven's face when I give him the go ahead to start cracking into walls and pulling down tile. He is just biting at the bit to really get into these walls for one reason or another.

We will be replacing the 1980's drywall with wainscoting. The bathtub will be converted with the shower unit and the hanging assembly from the ceiling. I love this look. Most of the houses in this area with clawfoot tubs have the shower in place and the look is just wonderful, and charming, and takes you back to another time.

I have found a small pedistal sink and will buy a new white toilet. Steven will one day build me a medicine cabinet to fill the hole behind the mirror where someone ripped out the one belonging to the house. We will also be replacing the ugly 1990's floor with pine flooring planks (Why in the hell the floor was torn out in this bathroom is completely beyond my understanding. The people who owned this place before us were idiots.)

I have such plans for this small bathroom and adjoining dressing room! I am soooooo excited. Can you tell?

It's going to be beautiful! Your house is so awesome to begin with, and you are turning it into a real showcase. $40 for that bathtub? Amazing.

Oh, and Happy New Year to you, dear Angie. 2006 will be the year of the baby boy. I know you can't wait.

Why the fascination with clawfoot tubs and pedestal sinks these days? Having grown up in a home that featured this (until we were fortunate enough to install a second modern and much more user-friendly bath) I would never go back to those!

Very uncomfortable for showering, and especially for taking a bath unless one is like 5'2' or under. And the shower curtain can't begin to contain all the water. Hope you're putting in a tile floor. Well, good luck. There's still time to change your plans. A used $40.00 tub might make an interesting planter.

I think it sounds fabulous.
And if the $40 tub is just right - or even close, you will be waaaay ahead of the game.

It's funny how some people want things the old way even if it means some losing some convenience and some want things streamlined, easy and modern -
but your dream bathroom will fit your house beautifully.

OOOOHHHH! That's going to look sooo cool!! Finger, toes and arms all crossed that the tub works out!! Question: Where did you find the pine flooring? I'm looking to replace the cracked hardwood in my hall and the carpet in the dining room with just such a find...but we can't!! Find it that is...please share ;0)

Happy New Year!! I'm sure it will be a great one!

Steve wants into the walls because he's sure they used 1860 newspapers for insulation and he wants to read about assassinations....

It always amazes me when people purchase old homes and try to make it modern. Upgrades are wonderful but keep with the period of the house.

The tub and bathroom sound fabulous.

Happy new year!

Happy New Year and glad to see how easy you are going to be taking it in 2006, lol. Yeah, nothing like a bathroom remodel to relax.
Glad we stayed home last night and celebrated by ourselves. The flooding out here was awful. One of us stayed awake until midnight...

I've got one of those tubs sittin' in a shed outside my house. Maybe someday I'll get spirit to do something with it!

Happy New Year, Angie! I love clawfoot tubs; I grew up using the ones in my grandma's house. You can almost float in them they are so deep. Post photos when the bathroom is done, okay?
