'Til You Sleep
Last night we drifted into Borders. Not my favorite book store but the ONLY one local to us. Steve, with Steven in his arms, was looking at the geek shelves. Gracie was in the children's section. Colby hunted the history section. I meandered around the store flitting from subject to subject. Finally we all somehow migrated toward the children's section. Steve found books one after the other and read them aloud to the baby. He walks over with a book in his hand. "Would you like to read this one?" "Will it make me cry?" "Probably." His answer was simple.

I will hold you 'til you sleep Safe and warm within my arms Dream of springtime's gentle breezes While my lullaby surrounds you Dearest baby, child of mine I will hold you 'til you sleep. I will hug you when you wake Summer sun will fill your day But if grey clouds storm and thunder I'll be shelter from the rain Dearest baby, child of mine I will hug you when you wake ... I won't finish the book here. For every mother of a son, you need this book. I will Hold You 'Til you Sleep by Linda Zuckerman Illustrated by Jon J MuthYes, I cried. We also brought it home.

Perfect! We got an amazon.com gift card for the kids for Christmas.
CPA Mom, I'm seconding that "Perfect!" I got a Barnes and Noble gift certificate for X-mas....guess what I'm gonna spend it on?!?!
Angie, thank you so much for your comment about how hard it is to encourage your daughter to leave the nest. I thought I was going to be in your position! Instead, I'm suddenly dealing with a kid who's eager to fly the coop--or the nuthatch, as the case may be. :) I realize now how right my dad was when he said "You NEVER stop worrying, no matter how old your kids are."
Ugh, the one that always gets me is Love You Forever. I can't even get through the first page without tearing up.
"I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
as long as I'm living
my baby you'll be."
IL - the sentiment of that book starts out really well and gets me too but then it gets creepy. A woman climbing into the window of her grown (and presumably married son) and wants to hold him while he sleeps. That one just icks me out. It pushes the line for me.
Guess How Much I Love You is another I cannot get through dry eyed. It gets me EVERY time.
Amen on Love You Forever. That book gets downright scary. But I know that a lot of people love it. God, it's been sooooooo long since I read to my girls. But I know I cried over a lot of books. Those mommy hormones are unstoppable.
No fair...you know I'm easily moved to tears.
That looks like you holding baby Steven, you know.
I always cry when I read "Just in case you ever wonder" by Max Lucado.
Oh, very sweet, I'll look for that for Jeremy! I love the colors in the illustration.
Good Choice of reading material..... here have a kleenx and pass me one while you're at it!
It's a good thing I wasn't there, because we'd be bawling like babies together!
Sometimes my girls get Border gift cards as gifts from relatives and it is such a joy to take them there an pick out books.
My sister also sends us awesome books.
One of these days, I'll have to start a weekly Children's Book feature.
I love the colors in that illustration.
Oh my God. How freaky. I just wrote the exact same sentence as my sister. (See above.)
"Goodnight Moon" and "Runaway Bunny" can do a number on me now, as far as getting teary. I must have read both about 5 billion times to my son.
