How to tell when Christmas is near -
Christmas cactus begin to bloom.
This is the first time mine has bloomed. I have had it for three years. I gave up on it after last year. I plunked it into a pot, stuck it in a window and watered it when I remembered. No pampering or coddling. My reward for its neglect are those gorgeous pink and white blossoms.
I guess I am like Momma Walton in The Homecoming and long for flowers in the dead of winter.

I think we all long for flowers in the dead of winter. Your cactus will be very pretty when it is in full bloom.
Yesterday, mr. kenju had an early appointment at the doc's office. Outside the building, there are many rose bushes. Imagine my surprise to find a perfect small pink rose in bloom - on Dec. 20th!! I took a photo of it, but I haven't downloaded it yet.
Wonderful! I am so glad that you were able to get yours to bloom. I nursed mine along for several years hoping for a bloom. It died while I was in the hospital almost a month. Not sure what they did while they were taking care of it.
So, after seeing how beautiful yours is, I think I am going to look for a new one. A bigger one. The last one that I had started out in one of those mini pots.
On the other hand, my aloe vera plant has decided that it is spring is blooming. I have a picture of it up on my blog....

Beautiful !!! I saw the Christmas cactus on both the Homecoming and the Waltons but have never seen a live one . I have no luck w/ plants but will enjoy the pretty one you have.
